Leybold SCREWLINE
SCREWLINE SP is Leybold's dry screw vacuum pump for the most demanding industrial applications. Its console-bearing design and direct pumping path make it a solution for processes that push conventional vacuum pumps to their limits.
Applications and suitability
SCREWLINE SP's console bearing design fully separates the bearings from the process gas: the bearings never contact the pumped gas, and no lubricant can enter the process chamber. The pumping path stays completely dry throughout operation, making the pump resistant to particles, moisture, and other process contaminants. Internally cooled rotors keep the pump's internal temperature moderate, which slows the buildup of deposits and enables continuous pumping of pure argon at any pressure.
If deposits do build up in the pump chamber, the console-bearing housing opens quickly, allowing on-site cleaning without a separate service visit. This combination makes SCREWLINE SP a practical choice for processes requiring both high availability and resistance to difficult gases and vapors. Typical applications:
- Thin-film coating: large-area coating, display coating, industrial coating
- Furnaces and metallurgy: industrial furnaces, heat treatment, vacuum casting, welding technology
- Semiconductor and solar industry: solar panel lamination, crystal growth
- Food industry: packaging, processing, freeze-drying
- Plastics and composites: extrusion, vacuum forming
- Special applications: load locks, space simulation, pure argon or oxygen processes
Models and technical data
SCREWLINE SP is available in two size classes: the smaller SP 250 delivers a flow rate of 270–330 m³/h, the larger SP 630 delivers 630 m³/h. Both are air-cooled as standard, and the SP 630 is also available as a water-cooled SP 630 F version for climate-controlled spaces. A dedicated O2 version is available for oxygen-containing processes, and an ATEX cat 3i option is available for all three models for hazardous areas.

Why SCREWLINE?
Self-sufficient across the full pressure range: Unlike Roots blowers, which always require a separate backing pump, SCREWLINE SP pumps from atmospheric pressure to ultimate pressure with a single machine.
Withstands dirty and moist processes: Its design tolerates particles, vapors, and dust better than other dry technologies, so it operates reliably even in processes where a more sensitive dry pump would clog.
Air or water cooling to choose from: The pump adapts to both standard spaces and climate-controlled cleanrooms, depending on the space available.
ATEX protection when needed: A dedicated certified version is available for hazardous areas (Cat. 2i/3o and 3i), so the same pump family also covers more demanding safety requirements.
Lifecycle from purchase to maintenance
SCREWLINE SP is designed for long-term industrial use, so it's worth planning its lifecycle from the procurement stage all the way through to maintenance and any potential downtime.
Purchase and commissioning
The right SCREWLINE variant is selected based on your application. The Standard version works in standard spaces, the F version suits climate-controlled spaces, the O2 version is designed for pure oxygen processes, and the ATEX version for hazardous areas. The air-cooled SP 630 is ready to use quickly, as it requires no water connection. The water-cooled SP 630 F, on the other hand, requires a cooling water connection, so this should be factored into installation planning in advance. We're happy to help you select the right version.
Initial period and warranty
As Leybold's official dealer in Finland, we handle any warranty matters directly and quickly, without intermediaries.
Preventive maintenance
SCREWLINE's gear oil is changed every 2.5 years, with full servicing every 5 years. If deposits build up in the pump chamber during operation, they can be cleaned on-site in under an hour whenever needed.
Managing downtime
The SP-Guard monitoring system warns of deposit and dust buildup before it causes problems. GENIUS Instant Insights™ adds remote monitoring on top of this, enabling maintenance to be scheduled based on operating data rather than a calendar. If needed, we arrange a replacement pump for the duration of the vacuum pump's repair.
